On Friday 12 March 2010 Tony Gibson thought that he was going out for dinner with his wife, Fiona, and their two children, Drew and Suzy. He was very surprised to find 90 of his friends and family at the pub to wish him a happy 65th birthday. A little later, at 7pm, Bruce Thorpe and Jill; Ian Quarrie and Sally; and Jan and I marched in to form the 100th Entry guard of honour.

Many thanks to Fi for inviting us to an excellent do in an excellent country pub, The Rising Sun, at Woodland, near Totnes. We had a bloody good laugh- it was December 1964 when I last spoke to Ian.

Gibby seems to lead a very quiet life, living in the rolling Devon countryside- he manages an organic dairy farm and is in the process of buying another. At the do, he casually mentioned that he had crashed his plane- I thought it was a model plane but no, it was the real thing!

Here are some pictures- left click on the thumbnails:
(thanks to Tony Lindon for getting them to work)

Yeah, a great do Tony. Not only that, but a double room in the pub, including breakfast for two, was only £55 and breakfast was a real feast- take a look at the menu: http://www.therisingsunwoodland.co.uk/

Good value, especially if you can arrange your visit to include a Pie Night and Pie Club membership.

Chuck, If you remember there was a downside to breakfast, there was no smelly, greasy steam bath in the foyer to wash your irons in.
