A bit more info has now come to light surrounding Chris Ferris' accident. Someone on an RAF forum said that the following information is given in the book "Lost To Service" by Colin Cummings (ISBN 09526619-0-X) (now out of print).
Accident Date: 04-08-78
Location: North Sea off Aberdeen.
Station: RAF Leuchars

Aircraft: Phantom FGR2
Serial No: XV403
Pilot: Capt Josh Tallentyre, United States Marine Corp (USMC)

If anyone has a copy of this book, or any other reference material, I would be grateful for a scan of the relevant page.
We hope to do a bit of research on each of our lost comrades with the aim of including an obituary on their relevant member's page. However, it is important that we get the facts right before doing that. So if you have any useful information about Chris Ferris or any of the others, please get in touch.

Chris Ferris & a weekend pass
I went to stay with Chris for a long weekend whilst we were still young apprentices. He lived at Minster in Kent and he had an elder brother who had lost a leg in a motor cycle accident. We had a great time and he was a wonderful host. He took me everywhere, Margate, Ramsgate, Hythe & Dimchurch Light Railway, Canterbury etc. Oh, and we went on the piss big time on Saturday night. Going into Birchington we decided to visit three pubs in the square (which was actually triangular) drinking two pints and, for some god-forsaken reason, two barley wines in each. We got totally blathered and missed the last train & bus back to Minster. "Not a problem" said Chris, "we'll run back!". Some of you will remember Chris was a bit of an athlete, some may also remember that I wasn't. With one or two 'comfort' breaks we did it, about 4 miles. I was at death's door and Chris was ready to raid the family drinks cupboard. A lovely lovely guy who gave me some great memories of 40 years ago.

That was a nice post Keith. It is ironic that Chris Ferris and Chris Hubbard, both outstanding apprentices, and both dedicated to the RAF, should be lost as a result of their chosen careers- flying.
