As per usual the SWO had got his revenge on Victor Line Sqdn. by selecting most of them for GoH. Laurie Dunlop and myself were there and also a Nigerian electrician known to everyone as Joe. Before the O I/C arrived, the SWO had numbered us off and sized us into 3 ranks, Nigerian Joe found himself in the rear rank. When he arrived the O I/C pointed at Joe and told him to change places with the guy in the middle of the front rank.

Quick as a flash Joe responded " Tell you what, Sir, I have a better idea. Why don't you put me on a lead and stand me in front of the band!"

Priceless!

There was a full dress rehearsal for the AOCs parade and the Standard Parties were ordered to report to the Armory at 0830hrs to draw weapons and await transport.

The SWO was WO Larry Higgins of Cosford App Wing fame.

We boarded the bus and the briefing from the SWO was "We will go to the Officers Mess and pick up the Standards and Standard Bearers and then go to the debus point between 4 and 5 hangars. You will form up and join the parade when indicated to do so by my runner. After the parade, you will return to the debus point and return weapons to the Armory and then take the Standard Bearers and Standards back to the Officers Mess where refreshments will be served"

He then turned to the driver and said "You will drive to the front entrance of the Officers Mess to collect the Officers and Standards and then drive to the debus point between 4 and 5 hangars but I don't want you to wait there. You will drive to the car park between the Bank and 5 hangar and park there because you will be very near the Station Barbers and you can have your f*****g hair cut before you pick us up!"

Parades had never been so much fun!
